Arusha National Park Day Trip

Arusha National Park is a smaller park located near Arusha town between the peaks of Mountains Kilimanjaro and Meru. The park and the town derive their name from Wa-Arusha people who traditionally live in this area. The Ngurdoto Crater, Momela Lakes, the highland montane forest, and the rugged Mount Meru (4575m) are the four distinctive features of the park. Although small, the park has a wealth of wildlife including colobus monkeys, velvet monkeys, bushbucks, buffaloes, red forest duikers, hippos, elephants, and giraffes. Birdlife, especially waterfowl, is abundant and interesting. You can do some hiking with an armed ranger at the Ngurdoto Crater and to the Mt. Meru Crater. This is a good trip for people who are not doing a safari in Tanzania.

  • Price: $250/person for 2 people, $215/person for 3 people, $195/person for 4 people
  • Included: Transportation, driver/guide, and box lunch

Materuni Waterfalls Day Trip

This is a pleasant one day trip that encompasses a hike, a beautiful falls, rainforest flora and fauna, and a cultural experience -- away from large groups of tourists!
Begin your day about 9:00 a.m., when you are picked up at your hotel and drive 45 minutes through the countryside to the parking area for the walk to the falls. You will encounter curious local children and adults as you hike along a small canal in the rainforest, passing rural farms enroute and observing beautiful flowers, coffee plants, and banana trees.
A 45 to 60 minute walk brings you to the Materuni Falls, where you will have a picnic lunch. After lunch, you may rest and enjoy the peace and beauty, or your guide will take your group for a walk above the falls, into the Kilimanjaro rainforest, observing more flora and hopefully, some monkeys or other wildlife.
An optional extension to this tour is to drive to a local Chagga village to observe and take part in a Chagga traditional dance program for a $60 group fee. Return to your hotel later in the afternoon.
A visit to TunaHAKI can also be arranged in the afternoon for a $25/person donation.
